Dolomiti Brenta Trek Expert

Trekking at high altitude around the Brenta Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage

The DBT Expert route is a loop trail for experienced hikers who feel comfortable with height, snowfields and via ferrata (climb with a fixed protection system such as wire ropes, pegs and ladders) where mountaineering equipment is compulsory.

However, the most difficult passages can always be avoided by a apposite easier route. Indeed, the so-called DBT Expert Variants are planned to give an easy alternative to technical paths and to give the chance to shorten the trek if desired.

On the DBT Expert route hikers will find accommodation in mountain huts, bivouacs and malghe. Malga (malghe in the plural form) is the Italian word for shepherds’ hut and describes a building at around 1800 metres altitude where cattle are kept for summer pasture and where cheese is produced.

Stages and duration

This website describes the DBT Expert route in 11 stages and 4 variant routes. It takes at least 5 days to walk the entire loop but the Variant routes allow hikers to shorten the trek and adjust it to make it suitable to the time at disposal. Anyone can organise its own tour choosing where to start from and how many stages to walk each day! And remeber, being developed as a loop the starting point always corresponds to the end point!
